The Arts Council of Johnson County is pleased to host our Creative Connections Breakfast!
Join us for a morning of inspiration, connection, and celebration of arts and creativity in Johnson County.

We are thrilled to announce Tim DeWeese as this year’s keynote speaker. Tim serves as the Director of the Johnson County Mental Health Center. He brings over 30 years of community mental health leadership to the Creative Connections stage. Under his leadership, the Center recently launched an Artist Residency Program in collaboration with the Arts Council of Johnson County, pairing a local artist with clients and community partners to explore the connection between art and health. Tim will share how this partnership is helping Johnson County residents find new pathways to connection and resilience.
Guests will also enjoy live performances, recognition of local arts advocates, and meaningful conversation over breakfast with fellow artists, businesses, and community leaders.

Johnson County Arts Advocate Award
Each year, we honor individuals who dedicate their time, energy, and leadership to uplifting the arts and strengthening the creative economy in our community.
These awards recognize individuals who make a lasting impact, whether through advocacy, collaboration, or direct support of the arts. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating the people who help make Johnson County a vibrant place to live, work, and create.
Examples of impact may include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:
- Nominee’s involvement in the arts such as:
- Nominee’s leadership in major arts initiatives
- Nominee’s efforts to increase funding and resources for the arts
- Nominee’s efforts to increase public awareness of the arts
Use the link to nominate an advocate. Nominations include a statement of no more than 500 words, excluding supportive materials, and are due on November 1st. Nominations are reviewed by a selection committee and will be presented at the Breakfast.

Keynote Speaker and Performances
Keynote Speaker: Tim DeWeese is the Director of Johnson County Mental Health Center. The Mental Health Center is a department of Johnson County (KS) Government and employs more than 550 staff who provide behavioral health services to nearly 20,000 county residents annually. Tim possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Missouri Southern State University and a Master of Social Work Administration degree from the University of Kansas. He is a Licensed Mental Health Professional in Kansas and has over 35 years of experience in community mental health, where he has worked in various capacities. He possesses extensive knowledge and experience in the public mental health delivery system, client-centered leadership, and program design/development. Tim also served more than 10 years as a commissioned officer in the Army Reserve and National Guard.
Last Year’s Featured Artists
JCDS Emerging Artists is an art as employment program offered by Johnson County Developmental Supports. The artists are adults who are passionate and driven to create and have and intellectual or developmental disability. Artwork can be purchased at the studio located in side the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center: Monday-Friday from 9am-3pm, or through the online store.
