Cultural Arts Inventory

The mission of the Cultural Arts Inventory project is to help our community understand who and where artists, arts, and related non-arts entities exist in Johnson County by placing markers and descriptions on a digital map. The Cultural Arts Inventory can be used to tell the story of arts and culture in Johnson County.

Kansas Arts Councils Symposium

The Symposium was developed by the Arts Council of Johnson County to bring together emerging and established arts councils and organizations from around the state of Kansas to facilitate professional development, partnership, and celebration of the arts in our communities.

Creative Conversation Series

Creative Conversations began in 2020 to bring people together during the COVID-19 pandemic and spotlight local artists, creatives, and community leaders. The series featured live interviews on Facebook, with recordings shared on YouTube. Over two seasons, we produced 39 episodes that are still available to watch today.

Resilience, Reflection, Rebuilding: Artists Respond to COVID-19

In July 2020, local artists shared their experiences during the COVID‑19 pandemic and how it inspired change. Their work was featured in the exhibition Resilience, Reflection, Rebuilding, shown at the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center and online from August 2020 to January 2021.

The exhibition also included programs to support the community, such as take‑home art kits.

Take-Home Art Kits

The arts can help lower stress and improve how people feel. To share these benefits, take‑home art kits were created with the Johnson County Mental Health Center and the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center.

Survey results showed the program made a big difference: 65% found the discussion questions helpful, and 100% felt good or great after the activity and said they would join the program again.

The Arts Council of Johnson County is grateful to the Johnson County Museum, JCPRD Fine and Performing Arts staff, and the JCDS Emerging Artists Studio artists for their help in assembling the kits. A special thank you to our partners at the Johnson County Mental Health Center and Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center for their support in developing this meaningful community program.
