The Finalist Resource Center is a central place to find details about the Shooting Stars program. It includes links to the program calendar and scholarship guidelines. Finalist program packets, which are linked below, include detailed information about audition and portfolio submission requirements, deadlines, and the Shooting Stars Gala and Recognition Ceremony.
Students who participate in Shooting Stars, students must be a senior in high school (12th grade), a resident of Johnson County, KS and nominated by their high school arts teacher. After students are nominated and submit their completed application, they become Shooting Stars finalists.

Performing Arts Audition Day: January 25th, 2025
Strings, Winds & Percussion, Theatre Performance, and Voice Classical category finalists will audition in person on Saturday, January 25th, 2025. They will audition in front of 2 judges who will score them based on their performance. We recommend arriving at least 10 -15 minutes prior to your audition to warm up in one of the available practice rooms.
Production & Design Interview Day: February 15th, 2025
Theatre Production and Design category finalists will need to go to the Johnson County Arts and Heritage Center for their in-person interview on Saturday, February 15th, 2025. They will participate in a portfolio review and interview with 2 judges who will score them based on their portfolio and interview.
Shooting Stars Gala: Sunday, April 6, 2025
The Gala recognizes each student in the Shooting Stars program. The event includes a Recognition Ceremony, Reception, and Student exhibition opening. The Gala begins at 3:00 pm and takes place at the Midwest Trust Center and Nerman Museum, Johnson County Community College, 12345 College Blvd., Overland Park.
Finalist Program Packets
To assist students, parents, and teachers throughout the duration of the Program, all Program information has been consolidated into a Finalist Program Packet. The Packet contains detailed information about student Eligibility and Participation Requirements, Scholarship Guidelines, Sample Résumé, Tips for Auditions or Portfolio Preparation, Scoring Rubrics, the Program Calendar for important Program dates and deadlines, and links to submit Visual Arts, Literature, and Production & Design portfolios.
