Arts and creativity are essential to every student’s educational experience, teaching innovation, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and self-expression.

The Shooting Stars Program celebrates student artists and their arts educators with recognition, college scholarships, and teacher honorariums. Over 1,000 high school seniors have been recognized for their artistic excellence and contributions to their community since 1997!

Generous support from donors like you helps us award 18 college scholarships and  honor nine arts educators with honorariums at the annual Shooting Stars Gala on April 12, 2026.

To participate in Shooting Stars, students must be a senior in high school (12th grade), a resident of Johnson County, KS and nominated by their high school arts teacher. After students are nominated and submit their application, they become Shooting Stars finalists.

  • Teacher Nominations open October 27 and close November 10, 2025
  • Student Applications open October 27 and close November 17, 2025
  • Visual Arts Orientation Workshop:  December 1, 2025
